About this tool

A countdown timer is one of those tools everyone needs at random moments — timing a workout rest, a cooking step, a Pomodoro focus block, a presentation, a kid's screen time — and hunting for one shouldn't mean wading through app-store installs or ad-choked sites. This one is instant, visual, and runs entirely in your browser tab.

Set any duration with the hour/minute/second fields, or tap a preset: the 25-minute Pomodoro block for focused work, 5 and 10 minutes for breaks and cooking, an hour for longer sessions. A large circular progress ring drains as time counts down, so you can read the remaining time at a glance from across the room, and a pleasant three-note chime plays when it reaches zero — generated by the browser's audio engine, so there's no file to load and nothing to enable.

The timer uses wall-clock time rather than counting ticks, which means it stays accurate even if the browser throttles the background tab — a common failing of naive timers that drift or pause when you switch away. Start, pause and reset are all one click. No signup, no ads, nothing uploaded — just a reliable timer when you need one.

How to use the Countdown Timer

  1. 1Tap a preset (5, 10, 25 min…) or enter hours, minutes and seconds and click Set.
  2. 2Press Start — the ring drains as the countdown runs.
  3. 3Pause and resume anytime; Reset returns to the set duration.
  4. 4A chime plays when the timer reaches zero.

Frequently asked questions

Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes — it tracks actual elapsed clock time rather than counting frames, so switching tabs or minimizing doesn't cause drift. The chime fires at the correct moment. Note that some browsers may delay audio if the tab has never been interacted with, so keep it in view for critical timing.

What's the 25-minute preset for?

The Pomodoro Technique — a focus method of 25 minutes of concentrated work followed by a 5-minute break. Both durations are presets here. It's popular for studying and deep work because the fixed interval makes starting easier and sustains concentration.

Does the alarm need sound permission?

The chime uses the Web Audio API, which plays through your normal browser audio. Make sure your device isn't muted. Some browsers require at least one interaction with the page (like clicking Start) before allowing audio — which the normal flow of using the timer satisfies.

Is this timer free and private?

Completely — no signup, no ads, and it runs entirely in your browser. Nothing about your timer is sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded it even works offline.
