Time Zone Converter

Convert any date and time between world time zones — DST-aware, with the live time difference shown.

About this tool

"Does 3 PM my time work for you?" is the question global work runs on, and getting it wrong by an hour is the classic remote-work fumble — usually because someone did the offset math in their head during a daylight saving transition. This converter answers it properly: pick the source zone, the target zone, a date and a time, and read the exact converted result.

The date matters more than people expect, and it's why this tool asks for one: time differences change through the year. India is 9h 30m ahead of New York in winter but 10h 30m ahead in summer, because the US observes daylight saving and India doesn't. The converter uses your browser's IANA timezone database — the same authoritative database operating systems use — so DST transitions, half-hour offsets (India, Iran) and even 45-minute offsets (Nepal) are all handled correctly for the specific date you enter.

Twenty-three major zones cover the cities global work actually spans, the source zone defaults to your own (detected automatically), and the result shows three things: the converted time in full, the current live time in the target zone, and the exact difference ("10h 30m ahead") — the number you need when proposing the next meeting. Entirely in your browser, always up to date.

How to use the Time Zone Converter

  1. 1Your own time zone is detected and set as the source automatically.
  2. 2Pick the target zone and set the date and time — the date matters because of daylight saving.
  3. 3Read the converted time, the live current time in the target zone, and the exact difference.
  4. 4Swap the selections to convert in the other direction.

Frequently asked questions

What's the time difference between India and the US?

It changes with daylight saving: IST is 9h 30m ahead of New York (Eastern) in winter and 10h 30m ahead in summer — India doesn't observe DST while the US does. West-coast Pacific time is 12h 30m/13h 30m behind IST. This converter applies the correct offset for your chosen date automatically.

How does the converter handle daylight saving?

Through the browser's built-in IANA timezone database — the same authority operating systems use, updated with your browser. Enter any date and the DST rules in force on that date in both zones are applied; you never need to know whether DST is active.

Why do some countries have half-hour time zones?

History and geography: India (UTC+5:30), Iran (+3:30) and parts of Australia chose offsets splitting the difference across their territory; Nepal is even +5:45. They work exactly like whole-hour zones — this converter handles them natively.

What's the best overlap time for India–US meetings?

The workable window is early Indian evening: 6–8 PM IST is 7:30–9:30 AM in New York (summer) — the standard India–US standup slot. For US west coast, 8–10 PM IST reaches 7:30–9:30 AM Pacific. Use the converter with your actual date, since DST shifts these by an hour twice a year.
